Columbia takes lead early to top Averill Park

Columbia scored three firstinnin­g runs and held off host Averill Park, 5-2, on Tuesday in a Suburban Council softball clash. Gianna Lenartz cracked a three-run home run in the first to give the Blue Devils all the offense they would need to move to 10-6 overall and 7-4 in the Suburban.

Bella Mancino was 3-for-3 with a run scored for Averill Park, which dropped to 11-6 and 8-3 in league play with the loss.

More softball: Amanda Danz pitched five scoreless innings and knocked in five runs at the plate to lead Voorheesvi­lle to a 17-0 win over Lansingbur­gh. Danz allowed one hit and struck out 12. ... Victoria Silva had seven RBIS to lead Duanesburg to an 18-6 win over Middleburg­h . ... Trishelle Oliver doubled off the left field wall to drive in two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and propel Galway to a 9-7 win over previously undefeated Fonda.

Baseball: Jack Nimons allowed no hits over five innings and Aidan Heffner doubled three times and drove in four runs as La Salle blanked Ravena, 11-0, in a Colonial Council game. Eddie Yamin homered for the Cadets (10-6, 10-3) . ... Jason Kendall allowed seven hits in five innings, homered and drove in four runs to spark Voorheesvi­lle. 13-3 over Lansingbur­gh. Eric Richardson also had a home run in the win.

Boys’ lacrosse: Queensbury raced out to a 9-0 lead at the end of the first quarter and coasted past rival Johnstown, 17-5, in a Foothills Council contest in Queensbury. Stephen Deutsch scored five goals and had five assists to pace the Spartans, who climbed to 8-6 overall and 8-2 in league play with the win. Ryan Hoyt scored four of the five Sir Bills goals to lead Johnstown, which dipped to 3-6 in the Foothills.
