Hunt is on for attacker

-

Police are searching for John Potter of the town of Nassau, suspected of attacking two women as they picked flowers along the roadside while they were returning from a Mother’s Day Sunday school rehearsal on the outskirts of Stephentown.

As he grabbed one of the women, their cries alerted several men to their aid and Potter dashed into the woods and he has not been seen since, although they are scouring the area and his home on Hoags Corners.

Both young women “were almost prostrated with fright” but otherwise uninjured.

The newspaper article’s account says “public feeling runs high against the man, who bears an unsavory record.” —Times Union, May 11, 1922
