PLAINVIEW — Jean Wager Hinkson, 69, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Friday, May 6, 2022, at Plainview Hospital on Long Island.

Born on April 29, 1953, in Troy, Jean was the daughter of Yolanda Wager Comproski and the late John Wager. She was a 1971 graduate of Catholic Central High School, attending Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing to become a registered nurse before earning her Bachelor of Science in 1989. Jean worked as a registered nurse at Glen Cove Hospital for many years prior to becoming a nurse case manager. She showed a nurse’s heart in the way she cared deeply for her family and friends. Jean spent most of her adult life raising her children in Plainview. She was an active member of her community, serving as the president of the local PTA for many years.

Jean is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Richard Hinkson; her daughters, Elizabeth Hinkson (Angelo Luchi) and Laura (Bradley) Weston; her two granddaugh­ters, Hazel and Evelyn Weston; her mother, Yolanda Wager Comproski; her siblings, Anne Rounds, Rita (Brian) Caogarcia and John (Alisa) Wager; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, John Wager.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc., 276 Pawling Ave., Troy on Friday, May 13, from 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. with a funeral service to follow at 12:30 p.m. with Reverend Edward Kacerguis, officiatin­g. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributi­ons may be made in memory of Jean to the Little Shelter Animal Rescue and Adoption Center, 33 Warner Rd, Huntington, NY, 11743.

To sign the guestbook, light a candle or for service directions, visit brycefh.com. patcher until she retired in 1994. For many years, Kay also worked for the Tawasentha Park Summer Program as a bus driver, and became the coordinato­r, organizing the program until she retired at the age of 80.

In 1979, Kay was one of the first women to become a firefighte­r and a life member of the North Bethlehem Fire Dept. and Ladies Auxiliary and held many different offices.

Kay was a huge fan of the N.Y. Mets baseball team and enjoyed elephant collecting, bowling, camping, fishing and shopping.

Calling hours will be held on May 11, from 4-7 p.m. at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. The funeral will be on May 12, at 9 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by interment in the Saratoga National Cemetery.
