Search finds firearms in woods but not suspect in Route 9W incident
Police are searching for a suspect who allegedly used a fire extinguisher to smash a display case to steal guns from Walmart early Tuesday morning after the store had closed.
Bethlehem police said they responded to reports of a burglary at the Walmart on Route 9W just after 1 a.m. They said the suspect had allegedly broken into the store through the garden center entrance, smashed open a gun case then fled through a store emergency exit and into the woods near Bender Lane with five long guns.
Town police, with the assistance of State Police and Albany County sheriff's deputies, were able to recover the guns and other property belonging to the suspect after searching the wooded area behind Walmart.
