ALBANY — Edward B. Baskervill­e Sr., 79, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 9, 2022, with his loving family by his side.

Edward was the son of the late William and Bessie Baskervill­e. After graduating from high school, Edward enlisted in the United States Army where he served until his honorable discharge. Edward became employed with Iron Workers Local #12 where he worked until his retirement. After his retirement, Edward was proud of his role as a greeter for Home Depot in East Greenbush.

Edward was a proud member of First Church of Albany where he was a deacon.

Edward enjoyed spending time with his entire family and loved cooking for them. He had a fond love of fishing, backgammon, and listening to music, especially Jazz. Edward was a lumberjack at heart. He was the best bartender and could be found serving his many friends and family at the Twilight Lounge in Albany. Edward truly loved every moment he spent with his grandchild­ren, often hosting them for weekend sleepovers and attending their sporting events. He had a passionate love for dogs.

Edward will always be remembered by those he loved for his ability to make friends with everyone who had the honor of meeting him.

Edward is survived by his children, Edward B. (Karen) Baskervill­e Jr., and Jovette (Austin) Young; his grandchild­ren, Nikisha, Dionna, Elijah, Devanee, and Dekairi; his greatgrand­children, Nashea and Milton; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to his parents, Edward was predecease­d by his stepson, Kalvin Newsome; and his siblings, Earl Baskervill­e, Nona Flowers, Keith Baskervill­e, and Rebecca Baskervill­e.

Calling hours will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie on Monday May 16, from 3 to 7 p.m. A graveside ceremony will be held in the Calvary Cemetery, 481 Rte 9W, Glenmont, on Saturday, May 21, at 10:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Edward’s name to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Ave, Menands, NY, 12204.

He is survived by his three sons and their families: Franklin and Carolyn Bell of Hartfield, Va. and their children, ’Liam, Kiersten, and John-eric; Matthew Bell and Jennifer Price of Wynantskil­l and their son, Aidan; and Adam and Susan Bell of Nassau and their sons, Brady and Adam Jr.

He was born in New Britain, Conn. on August 22, 1928. He graduated from Rensselaer Polytechni­c Institute in Troy in 1950 with a B.S. in chemistry. After one year as a developmen­t chemist at the then Allied Chemical and Dye Corporatio­n in Morristown, N.J., he spent four years at the Cornell University Graduate School and graduated with a PH.D. in organic chemistry in 1955. He worked as a research chemist and administra­tor at the then Sterlingwi­nthrop Research Institute in Rensselaer for 37 years. He was the inventor or coinventor of over 60 patents and the author or coauthor of about 40 publicatio­ns. Malcolm was a member of the American Chemical Society.

Malcolm was an active member in his local community. He was chairman of the Zoning Board of Appeals of East Greenbush for four years and a member of the Planning Board for four years. He was a member of the Board of Directors of Upper Hudson Planned Parenthood and active in the Inter-faith Task force in the South End of Albany in the 1960s. This group was dedicated to democratiz­ing the South End as part of LBJ’S anti-poverty program. He was an Explorer Scout leader at Sterling-winthrop in the 1960s, was president of the Friends of East Greenbush Community Library for 15 years and was an active promoter of library interests. Malcolm was a member of the First Unitarian Universali­st Society of Albany (FUUSA) since 1963. He was a supporter of and the director of the Neighborho­od Summer Children’s Program for five years, a camp for inner city children sponsored by the Society and Mount Pleasant Baptist Church.

Friends and family are welcome to a memorial service and reception to be held in the First Unitarian Church, on August 14, at 2 p.m.
