— Edward Wallace Gardner, 89, passed away on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, at his home with his loving family by his side.

Edward was born in Albany and raised in Catskill. He was the son of the late Dr. Harold Edward Gardner and Elizabeth Phinney Gardner. Ed graduated from Georgetown Preparator­y School and the University of Maryland. He had the honor of serving his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was involved in many business endeavors such as the Republic Steel Corp. and later was the president of the Albany Business Archives.

Ed was first introduced to Lake George as an infant and spent his early years on Cleverdale. Later he started the first water ski school on Lake George with his friends in the early 1950s. He has passed on his love of the lake to his children and grandchild­ren.

Ed also enjoyed alpine skiing and met his beautiful wife, Lynn, on the ski slopes in Stowe, Vt. He and his family had the privilege of working at the 1980 Olympics in Lake Placid and witnessed the "Miracle on Ice." Ed loved all sports. He was an avid golfer and a lifetime member of the Wolfert’s Roost Country Club. He also coached Latham Little League for many years; was involved in Soap Box Derby with his children resulting in two trips to Akron, Ohio; regularly attended R.P.I. hockey games; and was a board member of the C.B.A. Albany Patroons, even winning a championsh­ip in the 1980s with coach Phil Jackson.

However, Ed’s greatest pride and accomplish­ment was being a husband, father, and grandfathe­r to his family. He was a devoted husband to Lynn Callanan Gardner for over 59 years; and a loving father to their four children, Ed, Keith (Michelle), Ashley (Garth), and Geoffrey (Jessica). Ed was
