ALBANY — Giovanni "John" Tirino, 85 of Albany, passed away on May 10, 2022, with his loving family by his side.

John was born on September 6, 1936, to Pasquale and Elvira Viglione Tirino in Cervinara, Avellino, Italy and soon after, the family made their permanent residence in Airola, Benevento, Italy.

John emigrated to the United States as a young man in the late 1950s and worked as a mason for over 50 years. He was also an active member for more than 50 years in the Laborers Union of North America Local 190.

John was an avid fisherman, a talented wine maker and a quintessen­tial gardener. He enjoyed Sunday dinners with his family and rooting for his favorite Italian soccer team, A.C. Milan. John looked forward to his yearly trips to his hometown of Airola, Italy to visit with the many cousins and extended family members that he regularly kept in touch with over the many years. He was also a member of the Sons of Italy Lodge 215, the president of the Roma Intangible Lodge and a founding member of The Italian American Community Center of Albany.

John was the devoted husband of Rosalba Deluca, who predecease­d him in 2006. John was the beloved father of Elvira Bournazian (George), Pasquale G. Tirino (Joanne), Rosa Maria Tirino, John L. Tirino and Enzo Tirino. He was the treasured Nonno of David (Maggie) and George Bournazian, John Anthony Tirino, Erika Rose and T.J. Tirino. He is also held dear by his stepgrandd­aughters, Kaitlyn Stanley (Brian) and Jennifer Crawford. He was the dear brother of Maria Denitto (Luigi), and the late Antonio Tirino (Josephine); and beloved brother-in-law of Mafalda (Deluca) and Salvatore Fazio, Armando and Juanita Deluca, Angelina and the late Salvatore Deluca. John was the beloved uncle to many nephews and nieces including Domenico (Meghan) and Anna Rita Denitto; as well as great-uncle to Olivia and Julia Denitto.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 17, at 12 p.m. in St. Pius X Church, 23 Crumitie Road, Loudonvill­e. Calling hours will be on Tuesday, May 17, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at St. Pius X Church. Please be respectful of COVID-19 guidelines. Masks are recommende­d indoors and please practice social distancing. Interment will be private at the convenienc­e of the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the San Pasquale Society, 135-05 Crossbay Blvd, Ozone Park, NY, 11417.
