COLONIE — Deborah A. Chorbajian (Ekmalian), 58, died peacefully on Friday, May 13, 2022, at Albany Medical Center with her family at her side.

She was born in Albany on September 18, 1963, the beloved daughter of Charles and Alice (Moroukian) Chorbajian of Loudonvill­e. Growing up, Debbie was active in St. Peter Armenian Apostolic Church in Watervliet singing in the choir and was a member of the ACYOA Youth Club.

She was a 1981 graduate of South Colonie High School and later graduated from The College of Saint Rose in Albany. She received her master’s degree in education from SUNY Plattsburg­h.

Debbie moved to Plattsburg­h in 1986 and taught business education at Beekmantow­n Central School District. She returned to the Capital District in 1998 and taught business education at Cohoes High School from 2000 - 2015. Since 2015, Debbie has been employed by the Town of Colonie as a clerk in the court system.

Debbie enjoyed floral gardening around her home, cross-stitch and watching her favorite shows on T.V.

She was the beloved wife of John "Frenchie" Ekmalian whom she married on April 17, 2005, in St. Peter Armenian Church; loving daughter of Charles and Alice Chorbajian of Loudonvill­e; sister of the late Kenneth G. Chorbajian who died in 1982; and dear daughter-inlaw of Helena Ekmalian of Watervliet. She is also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins.

The funeral will be on Thursday at 9:45 a.m. from the Bowen & Parker Bros. Funeral Home, 97 Old Loudon Road, Latham and at 10:30 a.m. in St. Peter Armenian Apostolic Church, 100 Troy Schenectad­y Road, 100 Troy Schenectad­y Road, Watervliet with Reverend Stepanos Doudoukjia­n officiatin­g. Interment will follow in the Albany Rural Cemetery, Menands. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Bowen & Parker Bros. Funeral Home in Latham on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. with the wake service at 6:15 p.m.
