ALTAMONT — Irene M. Weatherwax, "Reta," 93 of Altamont, born on April 20, 1929, passed away on Saturday, May 14, 2022.

The daughter of Robert and Helen Lindsay, Reta graduated from Mohawk School, Scotia Junior High, and Scotia High School. She studied accounting at Schenectad­y Community College.

Reta enjoyed nature, especially bird watching. She was known for her creativity, sharp thinking, and ingenious problem solving. Reta was a hard worker and an avid reader. She lived in the same house at Sharps Corners for 70 years and was a highly valued volunteer at Guilderlan­d Town Hall. Her proudest achievemen­t was that all of her five children went to college and subsequent­ly excelled at their chosen careers. Reta had a large circle of friends representi­ng several age groups and received dozens of birthday cards every year with endearing notes enclosed.

A beloved wife, mother, sibling, and friend, Reta was predecease­d by her husband of 53 years, Robert "Bob" Weatherwax; daughter, Joan (Chuck) Gilnick; brother, Robert Lindsay; and sisters, Fay Bateholts and Doris Weise. She is survived by her daughters, Diane (Robert) Harrington, Paulette (Michael) Smith, and Bobbie Lee (Douglas) Strader; son,
