Stemp caps Bengals’ epic rally
Hits 2-run single during 4-run 7th for walk-off victory
Tamarac rallied for four runs in the seventh to walk off with an 8-7 victory over Albany Academy on Tuesday in a Section II Class B first-round softball contest.
The Bears scored three runs in the top of the seventh to take a 7-4 lead but the third-seeded Bengals answered with four runs of their own, capped by a two-run walk-off single from Jaelyn Stemp on the first pitch she saw in her at-bat.
Albany Academy held a 4-1 lead in the sixth as well, but Tamarac’s Erin Lee cracked a three-run home run to tie the game before the Bears grabbed the lead again in the final inning.
Abby Buckley finished 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and three runs scored to lead the way for Tamarac. Lee finished 2-for-3 with the home run and three RBIS.
The third-seeded Bengals will face No. 6 Schalmont, which topped Voorheesville 8-2, on Tuesday.

over Albany in a Class AA first-round game. Blue Bison leadoff hitter Alexa Gross scored both of Shaker’s runs . ... The Eagles scored five runs in the sixth inning to put the game away . ... Marissa Wille struck out seven and Aubrey Byrns singled twice with two RBIS to lead Mayfield over Hartford-fort Edward 3-0 in a Class C play-in game.
Boys’ tennis: Bethlehem topped Saratoga 9-0 in a Class AA semifinal matchup. The Eagles advance to face Shaker in the Section II finals. The match is set for 4 p.m. at Central Park in Schenectady . ... Thirdseeded Glens Falls nipped second-seeded La Salle 4-3 in a Section II Class B semifinal match. Heath Borgos and
Vincent Westfall won singles matches and the teams of Tim Motsiff and Ronan Westfall along with the Peyton Catarelli and Tucker Sokol pairing provided the doubles victories to send Glens Falls into the championship. Glens Falls will face No. 1 seed Ichabod Crane, which rolled past Greenville 5-2 in its semifinal, for the Class B title on Wednesday . ... Top-seeded Queensbury cruised into the Class A finals with a 6-1 win over Averill Park. Skyler Allen dropped one game in defeating Zachary Ryan 6-0, 6-1 in the top singles match.
Boys’ lacrosse: No. 17 Guilderland ended the regular season with a 14-12 win over Bethlehem. Tommy Tyksinski led the Dutchmen with six goals. The senior has now scored 100 points on the season for Guilderland. Dan Johnson led the Eagles with seven goals.
