Stolen luxury cars recovered

- Looking Back is compiled by C.J. Lais Jr. and Azra Haqqie.

State Police had recovered six luxury automobiles, all 1971 and 1972 Cadillacs and Oldsmobiles, in Saratoga, Rensselaer and Warren counties, found to have been stolen in New York City over the past few months. One of the cars had been purchased by an unidentified priest in Cohoes. State Police investigators and State DMV personnel were widening their search for more possible stolen cars and conferring with representatives of several insurance companies, which had paid the original owners in New York City who had reported the cars stolen. The National Auto Theft Bureau had also assisted in tracking down the high-priced cars, which had been re-registered with the DMV using phony vehicle identification numbers. Two suspects were arrested locally in connection with the discovery of three cars earlier in the week. After being arraigned before Malta Town Justice Morgan Bloodgood, they were released under $500 bail each.
