Heiberg, Jeanne C.
ATHENS — Jeanne C. Heiberg, 91 of Third Street in Athens, passed away on May 7, 2022.
She was born in Brooklyn, a daughter of the late Milton and Ruth Hansen Heiberg.
Jeanne’s life was about passion for the church and her service to God. She spent 10 years in service to the Grail from 1960-1970. She placed the highest importance on educating children in the ways of the church, writing, and visual art. Her family, and friends, and living a healthy life were also emphasized throughout her lifetime. She could be seen in all kinds of weather taking a daily walk, getting exercise, and soaking in nature and her surroundings.
Jeanne was a force for good in the world. She was gentle hearted, yet strong in her convictions. She was open minded and brilliant, creative, and found purpose in life. She loved people and engaged in spirited conversation. If her accident hadn’t stopped her, she may have lived another decade to shine her light on us all.
Jeanne was a lector and active parishioner at St. Patrick’s Church in Athens.
She was the loving sister of Milton J. Heiberg of Florida, Bruce Heiberg of Texas and Peter Spiess of Arizona; aunt of Kim Hogan of Pennsylvania, Chris Heiberg of California, Eric Heiberg of New Jersey and Lara Heiberg of Texas; grandaunt of Michael Elkazzaz, Zoe Heiberg, Devon Hogan and Matthew Hogan; great-grandaunt of Everest, Ellian, and Ivy Elkazzaz; and former sister-in-law of Brenda Heiberg. Several cousins survive, including Christine Mickelsen.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, June 3, at 12 p.m. in St. Patrick’s Church, Athens. A time of fellowship will follow in the parish hall.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick’s Church, 24 N. Washington St., Athens, NY, 12015.
