Westinghouse deal includes D&D Power

- By Larry Rulison

D&D Power, a utility services company based in Latham, will become part of Westinghouse Electric Co. as part of a sale of its parent company, BHI Energy of Weymouth, Mass.

BHI Energy acquired D&D Power in 2018. The purchase was one of several that BHI Energy made in order to scale up its operations after its 2017 acquisition by a Boca Raton, Fla., private equity firm known as AE Industrial Partners.

D&D Power was founded around 2006 by Darren Donohue, a former National Grid lineman who grew the company from scratch to focus on transmission and distribution jobs for

electric utilities.

Last month, AE Industrial Partners struck a deal with Westinghouse to acquire BHI Energy. Terms were not disclosed. Westinghouse is owned by private equity firm Brookfield Business Partners.

Westinghouse may also be on the market, according to recent news reports. Brookfield has been floating the idea for a while now, after saying that it had already gotten a nice return on its investment when it and a group of other investors purchased Westinghouse out of bankruptcy for $4.6 billion in 2018.

Westinghouse is best known for making components used in nuclear power plants. BHI Energy also has expertise with nuclear power generation, which is one of the main reasons why Westinghouse was interested in acquiring the company.

The deal between AE Industrial Partners and Westinghouse hasn't closed yet, but is expected to as soon as next week.
