RODGER’S QUICK TAKE

-

Whatever magic touch new Mets manager Buck Showalter has, he needs to use after hearing Thursday’s news. The loss of starting pitcher Max Scherzer for six to eight weeks comes at a time when the Mets are already dealing with the loss of their other ace, Jacob degrom. Can the Mets stay in first place and for how long without their top two pitchers and two of the best in baseball? Best-case scenario is degrom speeds up his recovery and gets back on the mound, and if that happens the Mets can survive the loss of Scherzer. Both out spells big trouble for a team that’s off to a great start. Rodger Wyland is the sports director for Newschannel 13. Listen to him weekdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on WTMM (104.5 FM, “The Team”).
