Albany seeking panel members
Advisory committee would help set rules for local regulation
The city is forming an advisory committee to help implement recreational marijuana regulations.
The city is looking for applicants to shape its rules on how adult-use dispensaries and lounges will function.
The city’s zoning code already lays out where such businesses will be able to operate.
For dispensaries, that includes a large part of the South End and the warehouse district, as well as zoning districts called mixeduse community highway, such as parts of Central Avenue, and mixed-use campus institutional. It also allows for manufacturing facilities in two industrial zoning areas.
People who are interested in participating in the committee are asked to submit a brief statement of 500 words or less on why they are interested as well as their qualifications, along with a resume.
The documents should be mailed to Mayor Kathy Sheehan’s office, Attn: Jasmine Higgins, Policy Analyst & Special Advisor, Room 102, City Hall, Albany, NY 12207 or emailed to localmarijuana@albanyny.gov.
Applicants will also be asked to sit for a brief interview with Sheehan’s office prior to their appointment to the committee. The deadline to apply is June 15, 2022.
