Ichabod Crane in ‘B’ final
Riders to meet Schuylerville for the Section II crown
Topher Pelesz pitched a complete game, giving up two runs on three hits, and No. 3 Ichabod Crane advanced to the Class B championship with an 8-2 victory over No. 6 Fonda-fultonville at Dutchmen Park in Guilderland. Pelesz struck out eight for the victory, delivering 64 strikes on 101 pitches.
Nate Garafalo belted a two-run home run to lead the Riders. Tyler Daus finished 2-for-3 with a solo home run for Fonda.
The Riders advance to face No. 4 Schuylerville, which upset top-seeded Catskill 9-7 in Monday’s nightcap. The Horses exploded for five runs in the sixth inning to take a 9-2 lead heading into the seventh, before the Cats rallied for five runs before coming up short.
Wednesday’s final between Ichabod Crane and Schuylerville will be held at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium. The game is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
Baseball: Kam Canavally had a home run to lift Mohonasen over Troy 8-7 in the Class A semifinals at East Side Rec in Saratoga Springs. The second-seeded Mighty Warriors advance to play No. 5 Averill Park, which upset top-seeded Scotia 8-3 in the second game. The Class A title game will be played at 4 p.m. Friday at Bruno Stadium . ... Aidan Bowerman finished 2-for-4 with three RBIS to lead Canajoharie/fort Plain over Maple Hill 11-10 in a Class CC semifinal matchup at Gloversville. Gavin Van Kempen had a home run and three RBIS to lead the Wildcats, who held a 10-7 lead going into the bottom of the seventh before letting Canajoharie rally. Canajoharie/fort Plain will face top-seeded Chatham in Thursday’s final at Bruno Stadium. The Panthers beat No. 5 Greenwich 7-2 in the late game at Gloversville . ... Grant Raymond connected on an RBI triple and Duanesburg topped Notre Dame-bishop Gibbons 13-6 in the Class C semifinals. The Eagles advance to face No. 1 Galway, which scored an 11-3 victory over Hartford/fort Edward. The Class C title game will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at Bruno Stadium . ... No. 2 Fort Ann scored a 5-1 victory over No. 6 Argyle at Veterans Memorial Park to advance to the Class D title game. The Cardinals will face No. 1 Germantown, which scored a 15-0 victory over No. 4 Loudonville Christian in the nightcap. The title game is at 4 p.m. Saturday at Bruno Stadium.
Boys’ tennis: Albany Academy’s Dhev Jammula scored a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Mahen Bitkuri of Guilderland to win the Section II singles title at Central Park in Schenectady. Jammula and Bitkuri both advance to the state tournament, where they will be joined by Albany sophomore Masami Surisawa, who topped Bethlehem’s Ashrith Rao, 6-0, 7-5 in the thirdplace match. In doubles, the Eagles’ duo of Will Bievenue and Aadi Ojha won the championship over Niskayuna's Zain Choudry and Avaneesh Benki, 6-1, 6-1. Both teams advance to the state tournament, along with third place Will Frasier and Zain Magdon of Albany Academy, which beat the doubles team of Abhinav Thati and Roshan Mehta of Shaker, 6-7 (7-4), 6-2, 6-0.
Girls’ lacrosse: Shenendehowa dominated Guilderland in a Class A quarterfinal matchup 19-2 at Shenendehowa. The No. 3 Plainsmen advance to play second-seeded Shaker, which beat Albany in another quarterfinal matchup. The semifinal will be played at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday at Shaker. The second semifinal will be played between No. 4 Saratoga and No. 1 Bethlehem. The Blue Streaks got by No. 5 Colonie on Monday to face the Eagles, who earned a first-round bye.
