Tri-city opponent ramps up offense

Wagner Lagrange hit two home runs to spark the Washington Wild Things to an 11-2 win over the Tri-city Valleycats on Tuesday in a Frontier League baseball game at Wild Things Park in Washington, Pa.

Brantley Bell led off the game with a solo home run, but the Wild Things scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Wild Things sent 11 men to the plate and had six hits in the inning. Lagrange’s three-run home run was the big blow.

The Wild Things tacked on four more runs in the second inning. Ian Walters and Lagrange hit back-toback long balls. Walters’ bomb was a three-run shot.

Washington chased Valleycats starter Matt Mercer after three innings. Mercer allowed 10 hits, nine earned runs, walked four and struck out three before being lifted for Jake Dexter.

Washington had 18 hits by the sixth inning and finished with 19 for the game.

Wild Things starter Rob Whalen threw an efficient 81 pitches in seven innings, striking out three, walking two and allowing two earned runs.

Pavin Parks homered for Tri-city’s other run.
