Eagles pull off big rally
Six straight goals erase late 7-3 hole to reach semifinals
Danny Johnson and Dane Jones each scored with under two minutes left to propel No. 4 Bethlehem to a 9-7 win over No. 5 Saratoga in the Class A boys’ lacrosse quarterfinals on Tuesday in Bethlehem.
The Eagles scored the final six goals of the game to advance.
Johnson unlocked a tie game with 1:15 remaining. Jones padded the lead 20 seconds later.
Bethlehem’s comeback started with less than seven minutes left. Henry Lane scooped and scored to make it a one-goal game with 4:32 remaining. Atticus Garcia tied the game moments later, setting the stage for Johnson and Jones.
More boys’ lacrosse: Peter Siracuse scored five goals and 15 other players registered at least one point in Ballston Spa’s 21-1 win over Troy in the Class B quarterfinals. The No. 2 Scotties will face No. 3 Queensbury in the semifinals on Friday. The Spartans crushed Amsterdam 23-4 to advance . ... Averill Park edged Scotia 12-11 in overtime in a Class C quarterfinal. Jacob Phelps and Ethan Jamison both scored five goals apiece to lead the Warriors’ attack. Ty Carlisle had four goals for the Tartans.
Softball: Kari Graziano scattered three hits and struck out 10 to spark No. 1 Ichabod Crane to a 4-1 win over Cohoes in the Class B semifinals. Abigail Heffner, Abigial Milazzo and
Clare Knapp homered for the undefeated Riders (20-0), the top-ranked Class B team ... Lily Mccauliffe doubled down the left field line in the seventh inning and then retired the side in order to propel No. 3 Greenwich to a 1-0 win over No. 2 Whitehall in the Class C semifinals.
Girls’ lacrosse: Top-seeded Burnt Hills coasted past Glens Falls 17-7 in its Class C semifinal game. MK Lescault had three goals and four assists and Caroline Kogut scored five goals to lead the Spartans’ offense.
Boys’ tennis: Landon Flach and Nathan Sober won their singles matches and Maple Hill swept doubles to edge Glens Falls 4-3 in the small school playoff and earn a spot in the state tournament . ... Bethlehem shut out Queensbury 9-0 in the large school playoff to claim its spot in the state tournament. The Eagles are a perfect 17-0 on the season. Queensbury closed the year at 14-2.
