Another solid softball season for Phippen
Ichabod Crane grad is MAAC second-team pick again this season
Calista Phippen bounced back from a serious injury in 2020 and returned as the top pitcher on the Marist softball team.
Phippen, a senior right-hander from Kinderhook, and an Ichabod Crane graduate, was sidelined for more than six months with a knee injury. She bounced back to post a 9-6 record with a 1.69 earned-run average in 2021 and was a second-team All-metro Atlantic Athletic Conference pick.
This year she earned MAAC second-team honors and earned a spot on the COSIDA District 1 All-academic team.
Phippen, a software development major, led the 25-30 Red Foxes with a 7-8 record with a 2.65 ERA in 19 games and 10 starts this season.
Jake Reinisch (Clifton Park)
The sophomore and the Wake Forest baseball team had the season end in the Division I NCAA College Park Regionals. The Deamon Deacons ended up 41-19-1 after losing to Uconn 8-7, beating LIU 10-4 and falling to host Maryland 10-5 in the NCAA event. Reinisch, a Shenendehowa High graduate, started 60 games and hit .318 with 14 doubles, a triple, eight home runs, 50 runs scored and 50 runs batted in.
Tom Kretzler (Albany)
The fifth-year student wrapped up his career with a big season with the 33-11 Brockport baseball team. The Colonie Central graduate hit .367 (62for-169) with 13 doubles, four triples, 17 home runs and 63 RBIS. The hits, doubles, home runs and RBIS are single-season records for the Golden Eagles.
Samantha Devito (Ballston Spa)
The sophomore midfielder came off the bench in all 19 games for the Princeton women’s lacrosse team, the Tigers finishing 15-4 after losing 13-9 to No. 5-ranked Syracuse in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Ballston Spa High graduate had six goals, nine assists with 21 ground balls.
Olivia Merolle (Latham)
The sophomore earned second-team All-metro Atlantic Athletic Conference after helping the Canisius rowing team finish fourth in the league championship on May 15. The Shaker High graduate sat in the seventh seat on the first Varsity 8 boat. She was also named to the league’s All-academic team.
Jason Rappazzo (Bethlehem)
The junior earned All-american honors after the Geneseo men’s 1,600 relay finished fourth in the Division III NCAA Championships at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio. The Bethlehem High graduate ran the leadoff leg, the group running 3:11.25.
Emily Carroll (Ballston Lake)
The sophomore first baseman started all 55 games for the 13-42 Sacred Heart softball team. The Shenendehowa High graduate hit .292 with five doubles, a triple, a home run, 15 runs scored and 19 RBIS. At first base, Carroll made just six errors in 263 chances (.977).
Madison Teta (Troy)
The junior outfielder was named to the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference second squad after a standout season with the 5-30 Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts softball team. The Lansingburgh High graduate hit .467 with 32 runs scored. She stole 34 bases in 38 attempts.
Eliza Lindberg (East Chatham)
The 5-foot-7 junior outfielder started all 24 games for the Clark softball team. The Emma Williard School graduate batted .313 with 15 runs scored and 17 RBIS.
