TROY — William J. "Bill" “Bruiser” Carroll, 74 of Troy, entered into eternal life on Saturday, June 18, 2022, at the Van Rensselaer Manor.

Born in Troy, he was the son of the late Howard and Madelyn Connors Carroll.

Bill was a graduate of Troy High School, class of 1966, where he excelled in sports and was invited to join the All City Football Team, he was employed for several years at the Norton Co., and retired from NYS Tax and Finance Dept. after 25 years of service. Bill was an avid fisherman venturing to areas on Lake Ontario, Salmon River as well as many local lakes and rivers. He was a lifelong N.Y. Yankees and Giants Fan. Bill was a member of the Polish American Club in South Troy and a devoted parishione­r of St. Joseph’s Church where he was an usher for many years.

Survivors include his brother, Todd and Nancy Carroll; sister, Madelyn Carroll; nieces, Katie (Fred) Fuller, Melissa Carroll; grand nieces and nephews, Liam and Caroline Fuller, Ryan and Melina Carroll. He was predecease­d by his nephew, David Carroll.

The family would like to thank the staff on Unit B3 at the Van Rensselaer Manor for all the care that was given to Bill.

Family and friends are invited and may call on Wednesday, from 4 - 7 p.m. at the Wm. Leahy Funeral Home, Troy. Funeral procession will begin at 9 a.m. on Thursday, from the funeral home to St. Joseph’s Church where at 9:30 a.m. a funeral Mass will be celebrated with Fr. Edward Kacerguis officiatin­g, Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
