Bethlehem captures opener

Volleyball squad sweeps three vs. Niskayuna boys

Bethlehem swept Suburban foe Niskayuna on Friday in a boys’ volleyball matchup at Bethlehem.

The Eagles won by scores of 25-13, 25-13 and 25-11 to take the season opener between the two schools. Senior libero and co-captain Danny Battista had 17 digs and four service aces and junior setter Ben Sorrentino added 15 assists and three digs

for Bethlehem (1-0, 1-0).

Tyler Laing had five kills and two blocks and Noah Castle chipped in with five kills for the Silver Warriors (0-1, 0-1).

Girls’ soccer: Addi Perry scored six goals to lead Chatham to a 12-1 win over Hoosic Valley in a nonleague contest. Marianna Chudy had two goals and an assist and Maya Narofsky added two goals and two assists for the Panthers . ... Kara Brown scored the game’s only goal in the first half to lift Bolton/warrensbur­g to a win over host Stillwater in more nonleague action . ... Amsterdam shut out South Glens Falls 2-0 in a Foothills Council battle. Madisyn Meca and Madison Cebula scored goals for the Rams.

Boys’ soccer: Middleburg­h and Cairo-durham battled to a 3-3 tie in a nonleague game in Middleburg­h. Austin Johns scored all three goals for Middleburg­h while Braeden Deyo had a goal and an assist for Cairo-durham . ... Queensbury and Averill Park settled for a 2-2 deadlock in another nonleague contest. Hayden Kiehl and Kyle Almeida had the Averill Park goals. Max Roca and Gavin Kelly scored for Queensbury.

Girls’ volleyball: Ballston Spa got past rival Niskayuna 3-0 in a Suburban match. The Scotties won by scores of 25-16, 25-20 and 25-16 to move to 2-0 on the season. Madelyn Perrone had 15 service points, five aces, six kills and 11 digs to lead Ballston Spa. Anjana Kurian had nine assists, seven kills and seven digs for Niskayuna, which dipped to 0-2 on the season.

Boys’ golf: Queensbury nipped Broadalbin-perth 176-180 in a Foothills matchup at Fox Run Golf Club. Tanner Fearman shot a 37 to lead the Spartans while Derek Goebel’s 43 led the Patriots . ... CBA edged Shaker by just one shot, 237-238, in a Suburban Council meeting. CJ Strong and Dixon Boggs both closed with 34 to lead CBA. Kieran Cummins and Tommy Wall both finished with 36 to lead the Blue Streaks.

Field Hockey: Brenna Welling scored two goals to help Shaker sneak past visiting Salem/ Cambridge 3-2 in a nonleague season-opening game for both schools in Latham. Kady Crosier and Mary Kate Mcphee had the goals for Salem/cambridge.
