Spartans, Lady Plainsmen prevail

The Queensbury boys’ and the Shenendeho­wa girls’ ski teams posted first-place finishes on Friday at the Lake George/glens Falls Nordic Invitation­al at Gore Mountain.

Patrick Cirillo’s top individual finish in a time of 24 minutes, 2.8 seconds helped the Spartans claim the top spot on the boys’ side. Cirillo edged Mayfield’s Brice Williams (24:10.9), who took second, and third place finisher John Bednarek (24:25.0) of Scotia.

The Queensbury team had 11 points while Shenendeho­wa and Johnsburg tied for second with 39 points apiece.

On the girls’ side, Shenendeho­wa took first with 9 points. Queensbury was second with 21 and Saratoga Springs rounded out the top three with 36 points.

The Lady Plainsmen had the top two individual finishers, with Raquelle Landa (25:36.5) taking first and teammate Courtney Krawiecki (26:20.6) crossing the line second. Maddie Powers (27:21.1) of Queensbury placed third.

Boys’ basketball: Seth Wilson scored seven of his 12 points in overtime to spark Voorheesvi­lle to a 66-62 win over Ravena. Brady Carrow scored 22 points to lead the Blackbirds in scoring. Eddie Reville sank five 3-pointers and scored a game-high 25 points for the Indians.

Girls’ basketball: Mechanicvi­lle coasted to a 56-20 win over host Hoosic Valley in a Wasaren League contest. Tanner Eiseman scored 14 points and Allie Kenyon chipped in with 11 points for the Red Raiders . ... Tasha Chudy scored 16 points, pulled down 21 rebounds and dished out 12 assists to lead Saratoga Springs past rival Shaker 58-48 in a Suburban Council game. Carly Wise added 21 points for the Blue Streaks. Jamie Martino scored 15 points to lead the Blue Bison offense . ... Albany Academy outscored host Cobleskill 17-3 in the second quarter and rolled to a 54-24 win in a Colonial Council match-up. The Bears held a slim 11-10 lead at the end of the first quarter but took control of the game with the second quarter outburst. Alex Leonard had 10 points and Saige Randolph and Eva Gitto both scored nine points apiece to lead Albany Academy, which remain perfect at 16-0 overall with the victory. Kiley Ellis had 15 points to lead the Bulldogs.

Boys’ bowling: Columbia got past Bethlehem 19-13 in a Suburban Council match. The Blue Devils edged the Eagles by just 28 total pins, 3,544-3,516. Aidan Goodwin had a 279 high game and finished with a 702 series to lead Columbia while Cody Martin rolled a 244 single and a 682 triple for Bethlehem.

Girls’ bowling: Amy Chrzanowsk­i closed with a 279 high game and a 717 series for Colonie, but the Garnet Raiders dropped a 21-11 decision to Columbia in a Suburban match-up. Lily Brown finished with a 235 single and a 589 triple to lead the victorious Blue Devils, who also topped Colonie 3,373-3,221 in total pins.
