No. 5 Uconn tops No. 21 Villanova

HARTFORD, Conn. — Aubrey Griffin scored 19 points, and No. 5 Uconn topped No. 21 Villanova 63-58 on Sunday.

Dorka Juhasz added 16 points and Aaliyah Edwards had 13, including some key free throws for the Huskies (20-2, 12-0 Big East) in the team’s 13th straight win.

Maddy Siegrist scored 25 points for Villanova, which won here a year ago to hand the Huskies their last conference loss. Lucy Olsen had 19.

The Wildcats (18-4, 9-2) had won nine in a row.

The Wildcats led 51-45 with eight minutes left, but Uconn went on a 15-4 run for a 60-55 advantage with 51 seconds left.

Lucy Olson’s 3 made it a two-point game with 22 seconds left. But Edwards hit three late free throws to secure the win.

South Carolina 65, Alabama 52: Aliyah Boston had 16 points and 12 rebounds to lead No. 1 South Carolina. Sarah Ashlee Barker scored a seasonhigh 15 for Alabama.

Purdue 73, Ohio State 65: Abbey Ellis made a season-high five 3 pointers and Purdue earned its first top-five road victory in program history, beating No. 2 Ohio State. Taylor Thierry led the Buckeyes with 18 points and seven rebounds.

Stanford 62, Oregon 54: Cameron Brink had a remarkable first career triple-double with 16 points, 11 rebounds and a career-high 10 blocked shots to lead No. 3 Stanford. Phillipina Kyei led Oregon with 12 points and 17 rebounds.

Indiana 91, Rutgers 68: Grace Berger and Mackenzie Holmes each scored 21 and No. 6 Indiana shot 61% from 3-point range. Kaylene Smikle led Rutgers with 25 points.

N.C. State 69, Notre Dame 65: Diamond Johnson scored 20 and No. 20 North Carolina State held on despite blowing most of a 16-point lead to beat No. 7 Notre Dame, which got 19 points and 13 rebounds from Maddy Westbeld.

Utah 71, UCLA 69: Alissa Pili drove to the rim for a go-ahead layup with 0.8 seconds left to give No. 9 Utah a win over No. 8 UCLA. Pili scored 23 and had nine rebounds to lead Utah. Emily Bessoir scored 17 and had six rebounds to lead UCLA.

Michigan 77, Minnesota 41: Laila Phelia scored 22, Leigha Brown added 20 and No. 13 Michigan rolled. Alanna Micheaux had 15 for Minnesota.

North Carolina 69, Clemson 58: Freshman Paulina Paris hit six 3-pointers, scored 22 points and had five steals — all career highs — to lift No. 15 North Carolina. Daisha Bradford led Clemson with 14 points

Florida State 70, Duke 57: Makayl Timpson scored 21 points with 10 rebounds and three steals and No. 24 Florida State smothered No. 16 Duke, which was led by Shayeann Day-wilson with 14 points.

Washington State, 70, Arizona 59: Bella Murekatete scored 18 points, Ula Motuga added 16, and the two hit several key buckets down the stretch, lifting Washington State over No. 19 Arizona, which was led by Esmery Martinez with 14 points.

USC 71, Colorado 54: Destiny Littleton scored 21, Rayah Marshall and Kadi Sissoko had double-doubles, and USC defeated No. 25 Colorado, which got 16 points from Aaronette Vonleh.

Men

Purdue 77, Michigan St. 61: Zach Edey scored a career-high 38 and grabbed 13 rebounds, lifting No. 1 Purdue. A.J. Hoggard had 20 for the Spartans.

Providence 70, Villanova 65: Jared Bynum scored 17 of his 19 points after halftime and hit a key jumper and two free throws late to lead No. 23 Providence. Cam Whitmore had 21 points to lead Villanova.
