Volunteers sought for Jefferson Awards

Free help for income tax filers at HVCC

TROY — Hudson Valley Community College has partnered with Volunteer Income Tax Assistance to help eligible filers prepare federal and state income tax returns for free.

VITA, which is affiliated locally with United Way of the Greater Capital Region, is working with the college’s Business and Criminal Justice Department to provide this service. Those who qualify and are interested in receiving tax assistance, may call 211 to speak with an operator and make an appointmen­t.there are currently eight dates scheduled for the tax assistance, 1 to 4 p.m. Feb. 10, 17 and 24 and March 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31 in Bulmer Telecommun­ications Center, room 216.

Donation bin open for foster children

CLIFTON PARK — Friends of the Clifton Park-halfmoon Library will have a donation bin set up at the library, 475 Moe Road, to benefit Our Store, a nonprofit in Albany that provides free clothing, bedding and items like books to children living in foster care.

Nominate local volunteers through March 10 for the Jefferson Award, which recognizes ordinary people who do extraordin­ary things.

The Jefferson Awards were establishe­d by the American Institute for Public Service, founded in 1972 by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, U.S. Senator Robert Taft, Jr. and Sam

Beard. One finalist will represent the Capital Region at the national Jefferson Awards event produced by Multiplyin­g Good on Oct. 4 in New York City.

The awards are sponsored locally by St. Peter’s Health Partners, WNYT Ch. 13 and the Times Union. This year’s Jefferson Award recipients will be recognized in a special publicatio­n in the Times Union on April 23 and https://www.timesunion.com. Chamber convenes meeting on events

COBLESKILL — The Schoharie County Chamber of Commerce is holding an event collaborat­ion roundtable on from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16 at The Gathering Place 50 Plus Community Center, 127 Kenyon Road in Cobleskill.

Historical group’s museum opens

BETHLEHEM — The Cedar Hill Schoolhous­e Museum, 1003 River Road, Selkirk, home of the Bethlehem Historical Associatio­n, opens for the 2023 season on Sunday Feb. 5.

Exhibits explore the history of the town. New for 2023 are 1940s Bethlehem and Lighting Through the Ages. Recent acquisitio­ns on display include a Victorian dollhouse created by Anna Uhl.
