SCHAGHTICOKE
— Phoebe Eleanor Bevis of Chestnut Street passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 29, 2023, at Albany Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family. She was 84.
Born in Troy on February 28, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Samuel J. and Phoebe (Macfarlane) Miller Sr. She was the wife of John Edward Bevis Sr.
Phoebe worked for the Hoosic Valley Central School System, retiring in 1993 from her position as head cook. She was also a waitress at Christie’s Restaurant in Schaghticoke and a caterer for Brown’s Beach Restaurant on Saratoga Lake. Phoebe was an active parishioner of Trinity Church in Lansingburgh, where she attended weekly services and lifted up her voice to the Lord as a member of the church choir. She had just donned her choir robe at church on Sunday morning when she fell ill.
Phoebe loved her daily walks around the neighborhood, usually walking four
ä± ol± c #¯± ¶·moq cupcakes on Saturday for ß³·5? µpµp µj±± hour, she took her last walk through town.
In addition to her beloved husband, John, whom she married on June 15, 1957, she is survived by her children, Jacklyn Bevis Bogardus, Dianne (Hal) Wiley and Barbara Jean (Gary) Charlebois; a daughter-inlaw, Lisa Schroeder Bevis; and her brother, Samuel (Carol) Miller Jr. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Nathan (Noelle Gentile) Bogardus, Rebekah Wiley, Tanya (Shawn) Simkovich, Zachary (Sara) Wiley, Kyle (Kelley) Bevis, Ellen (Bert) O’neill, Isaac (Jaime) Wiley, Marissa Charlebois, Abigail Charlebois and Sabrina (Reinaldo) Verdu; as well as her great-grandchildren Daphne, Isla, Liam, Collins, Lucia, Frances, Benjamin, Harrison and Aram. She was predeceased by her loving son, John Bevis Jr.; her infant brother, Lane Robert Miller; and her infant grandchildren, Mark Wiley and Elizabeth Bevis.
Calling hours will be on Saturday, February 4, 2023, from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. at the Chase Smith Family Funeral Home in Schaghticoke, followed by a funeral service in the Trinity Church, 585 4th Ave., Troy at 1 p.m. Burial will be in the spring in the Elmwood Cemetery, Schaghticoke.
