Spartans snap eight-game skid

Burnt Hills breaks away in 3rd quarter to defeat Dutchmen

Alex Doin scored 32 points to help Burnt Hillsballs­ton Lake win 61-50 over Suburban foe Guilderlan­d on Friday in a boys’ basketball clash.

Burnt Hills outscored host Guilderlan­d 15-6 in the third quarter to break open the game and earn the victory. Ben Kline added 14 points for the Spartans, who snapped an eight-game losing skid with the win. Burnt Hills, which started the season 6-1, improved to 7-9 with the victory.

Justin Kapusinski had 13 points and Tyler Witazek chipped in with 12 points for the Dutchmen.

Girls’ basketball: Bishop Gibbons cruised past host Loudonvill­e Christian 60-20 in a nonleague game. After trailing 9-8 at the end of the first quarter, the Golden Knights went on to outscore the Eagles 52-11 the rest of the way to coast to the win. Angelina Dietz scored 18 points to lead Bishop Gibbons while Larissa Paddock had a team-best 11 points for Loudonvill­e Christian . ... Jayla Tyler scored 22 points to lift Colonie over Shaker 55-33 in a Suburban Council game in Latham. The Garnet Raiders jumped out to a commanding 26-9 advantage at the close of the first quarter and eased to the finish line to claim the win. Mady Victorian had seven points to lead Shaker. ... Oppenheim-ephratah/st. Johnsville rolled past visiting Fort Plain 48-23 in a Western Athletic Conference game. Senior Anderson Eggleston celebrated Senior Night at OESJ with a team-high 12 points. Chloe Sickler had 11 points to lead Fort Plain.

Boys’ swimming: Saratoga Springs topped Glens Falls 89-70 in a nonleague contest. John Gregory posted victories in the 200 freestyle (1 minute, 55.72 seconds) and 100 butterfly (57.67) to lead the Blue Streaks, who improved to 7-1 on the season. Joe Flood had wins in the 50 freestyle (22.83) and 100 freestyle (50.71) for Glens Falls, which dipped to 7-2.
