Saratoga finishes strong in pool

Saratoga capped an impressive regular season by edging Burnt Hills 86-84 in Suburban Council boys’ swimming and diving Tuesday in Burnt Hills.

The Blue Streaks (8-1) trailed 50-44 midway through the meet, but Calvin Baird, John Gregory and Casey Everett went 1-2-4 in the 500-yard freestyle to give Saratoga the lead for good.

Baird was also on the winning 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays.

His brother Connor Baird was also on Saratoga’s victorious relays and won the 100 butterfly.

Sectionals begin Feb. 16 with diving at Shenendeho­wa. Swimming preliminar­ies and finals will also be held at Shenendeho­wa Feb. 17-18.

Boys’ basketball: Colonie edged host Averill Park in a Suburban Council contest. Trey Von Owens-cody scored a game-high 16 points and Brandon Gordon added nine points to lead the Garnet Raiders, who improved their record to 11-7 overall and 8-5 in the Suburban with the victory. Ethan Nardacci had 13 points for the Warriors, who have lost seven straight . ... In other Suburban Council action, Antone Robbens sank four 3-pointers in the second half and Andrew Stallmer scored 10 of his 16 points to spark Saratoga to a 62-59 win over Burnt Hills. Hutton Snyder added 15 points for the Blue Streaks. Alen Doin led the Spartans with 23 points . ... Isiah Rose scored 19 points to help Mekeel Christian Academy top visiting Bishop Ludden 61-51 in a nonleague clash. Terrence Robinson had 18 points and Oryan Dejesus chipped in with 17 points for the Lions. Aidan Mahar had a team-best 16 points for Bishop Ludden.

Girls’ basketball: Karissa Antoine scored 36 points to lead Schalmont to a 67-44 win over Voorheesvi­lle. Antoine scored 21 points in the first half to help stake the Sabres to a 31-17 lead at halftime. Mia Carmody led the Blackbirds with 18 points.
