Albany girls rally past Columbia

Albany improved its record to 17-1 overall with a 51-42 win over Suburban Council foe Columbia on Wednesday in a girls’ basketball clash at Columbia.

The Falcons trailed 12-7 at the close of the first quarter but took control in the second by outscoring the rival Blue Devils 17-7 to grab the lead at the break. Albany maintained the advantage from there to boost its mark to 12-1 in Suburban play. Iyana Weeden had a gamehigh 16 points to lead the Falcons.

Sophie Bissaillon scored 12 points and Alivia Landy had 11 points to lead Columbia.

More girls’ basketball: Berne-knox rolled past visiting Schoharie 57-23 in a Western Athletic Conference crossover contest. The Bulldogs jumped ahead 15-3 at the end of the first quarter and never looked back on the way to the victory. Ashlee Stevens scored 14 points to lead Berne-knox while Savannah Traverse had 11 of Schoharie’s 23 total points . ... Megan Blakeslee scored 13 points to lead Canajohari­e to a 48-38 win over Middleburg­h in another WAC crossover. The Cougars held a slim 22-19 halftime lead but outscored the Knights 13-6 in the third quarter to open up a lead. Sarah Schafroth had a game-high 17 points to lead Middleburg­h . ... Duanesburg kept its perfect WAC league record intact with an easy 70-28 win over Bishop Gibbons. The Eagles are now 11-0 in the WAC and 14-4 overall. Allison O’hanlon had 28 points and 10 rebounds to lead Duanesburg.

Boys’ basketball: Northville moved to 14-5 on the season following a 65-43 win over Schoharie in a Western Athletic Conference crossover game in Northville. Jacob Frank scored 24 points and Evan Tamulaitis chipped in with 18 points for the Falcons. Nathan Burke had a team-best 11 points for Schoharie.
