High school basketball: Five things to know

1Albany Academy is set to entertain Catholic Central on Friday night in boys’ basketball play. The Cadets will not be competing in sectionals. CCHS is gearing up for tournament play. The two tournament champions from the Wasaren League will be crowned Saturday.

Tamarac will be involved in both contests as the girls’ basketball team will take on Greenwich at 2 p.m at Hoosic Valley. The boys’ final, at the same location, pits Tamarac vs. Hoosic Valley at 4. The Duanesburg and Fonda boys’ basketball teams clash in the title game of the Western Athletic Conference Tournament, set for Tuesday at Fulton-montgomery Community College. The annual Patroon Conference’s Coaches vs. Cancer event is set to be held Saturday and Sunday at Columbia- Greene Community College. There are seven games to be played Saturday and four more to be contested Sunday. The final four games Saturday pit the league’s top four boys’ and girls’ teams, beginning at 2:30 p.m. with No. 2 Greenville vs. No. 3 Watervliet in girls’ action.

5The Washington Avenue Armory will play host to the Foothills Council Boys’ and Girls’ Basketball Showcase. Saturday, there are six games beginning at 9:30 a.m. Sunday’s action features four games. The top seeds from the two divisions are set to meet. Broadalbin-perth and Queensbury face off in girls’ play at 1 p.m. Sunday, followed by the boys’ contest pitting Amsterdam vs. Hudson Falls at 2:45.
