Jeter joining Fox baseball studio team

GLENDALE, Ariz. — Fox Sports announced Sunday that New York Yankees legend Derek Jeter will be part of the network’s studio coverage for the coming baseball season.

Jeter, who was elected to baseball’s Hall of Fame in 2020, also joins fellow Hall of Famer David Ortiz and host Kevin Burkhardt as part of the studio team.

Carr won’t OK trade by Raiders

Derek Carr has informed the Las Vegas Raiders he will not accept a trade to any team, including the Saints, a source said

As a result, the Raiders are expected to release Carr ahead of Wednesday’s deadline, at which a $40.5 million bonus becomes guaranteed.

The Saints were the only team to express interest in a trade for Carr, but they wanted him to renegotiat­e his contract to a lower number, a source said.

Upon being released, Carr will become a free agent able to negotiate a new deal with any team.

The Raiders signed Carr to a threeyear contract extension last offseason, but it was essentiall­y a one-year evaluation deal in which new coach Josh Mcdaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler could get a handle on whether Carr would be their long-term QB.

Steichen leads Colts’ candidates

Philadelph­ia Eagles offensive coordinato­r Shane Steichen is the leading candidate to be the next coach of the Indianapol­is Colts, a source said.

Steichen was one of three finalists for AP Assistant Coach of the Year.

The Colts have been impressed by Steichen’s ability to help develop Jalen Hurts, who was a finalist for the AP NFL MVP and AP Offensive Player of the Year awards.

Ravens’ Campbell coming back

Ravens defensive end Calais Campbell plans to return for a 16th NFL season, he announced Sunday, ending speculatio­n that he might retire.

The 36-year-old was again one of the Ravens’ most consistent defenders in 2022, finishing with 36 tackles, 51⁄2 sacks and 14 quarterbac­k hits in 14 games. He’s under contract for 2023 but would cost $9.44 million against the cap. He has made six Pro Bowls.

New Mexico St. cancels season

LAS CRUCES, N.M. — New Mexico State called off the rest of its men’s basketball season after reviewing a police report that cited three players for false imprisonme­nt, harassment and counts of criminal sexual contact against a teammate.

KTSM-TV in El Paso, Texas, obtained what it said was a redacted police report with none of the players named. The station said the report detailed the victim telling investigat­ors that on Feb. 6, three members of the team held the victim down “removed his clothing exposing his buttocks and began to ‘slap his (buttocks).’ He also went on to state that they also touched his scrotum.”

The victim said other incidents had been occurring since last July or August, and that inappropri­ate physical and sexual touching by his teammates had been occurring in the locker room and on road trips.

Sinner captures Open Sud final

MONTPELLIE­R, France — Italy’s Jannik Sinner won his seventh singles title and first of the season by beating American Maxime Cressy 7-6 (3), 6-3 in the Open Sud de France final.

Wu first from China with ATP title

DALLAS — Wu Yibing became the first Chinese player to win an ATP Tour title, rallying in a three-set, all-tiebreaker thriller to beat John Isner in the Dallas Open.

Wu overcame 44 aces from the big-serving Isner — one shy of tying a three-set record — and four match points in the 6-7 (4), 7-6 (3), 7-6 (12) victory. The 23-year-old was the first Chinese player in an ATP final.

Chock and Bates win ice dance

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Madison Chock and Evan Bates delivered the season-best free dance they needed to edge Laurence Fournier Beaudry and Nkolaj Sorensen and win the ice dance at the Four Continents Figure Skating Championsh­ips.

The four-time American champions scored 133.14 points to their free dance for a total of 220.81. Their Canadian rivals, who also set a season best with their free dance, finished with 214.08 points to take the silver medal.

Marjorie Lajoie and Zachary Lagha scored 200.00 points to take the bronze medal.

It was the third title for Chock and Bates at the marquee event.
