- Sports staff

Two days after her 55foot buzzer beater improbably lifted Siena over Niagara, Elisa Mevius has hit another unique distinction, becoming the first Saint to sweep the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference weekly awards.

Mevius, a freshman from Grunberg, Germany, earned both Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week honors for the Siena women’s basketball team. It is the first time that a player from Siena has won both awards in one week. Mevius has now taken home the Rookie of the Week award on four occasions this year, while teammate Teresa Seppala has won the award on seven occasions. Mevius is the first recipient of a Player of the Week award for the Saints this season.

She averaged 25 points, five rebounds, two assists, and two steals during home wins over Manhattan and Niagara on Thursday and Saturday, respectively.

Mevius’ buzzer beater — dubbed the “Mevius Miracle” — earned the No. 2 spot on the ESPN Sportscenter “Top Plays” of the night on Saturday.
