Source: QB Carr meeting with Jets
Free agent quarterback Derek Carr is meeting with the New York Jets this weekend, a source said.
Carr, 31, was released by Las Vegas Tuesday after he declined to waive his no-trade clause. Las Vegas needed to trade or release him by Wednesday or $40.4 million of his contract over the next two years became guaranteed. The Jets are looking for a veteran after Zach Wilson struggled mightily after being the No. 2 pick in 2021.
Pats’ Slater returning for 16th year

But for now, retirement can wait. The Pats announced that the 37-year-old and two-time All-pro decided to return for his 16th season in 2023.
RB Jones staying with Packers
Running back Aaron Jones agreed to remain with the Green Bay Packers on a restructured deal with a reduced salary for the upcoming season.
Jones will make $11 million in 2023 rather than the $16 million he had been projected to make.

Judge denies Baffert request
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Trainer Bob Baffert’s attempt to run horses in this year’s Kentucky Derby was once again denied when a federal district court in Louisville, Ky., denied his request for a preliminary injunction. Baffert is currently serving a two-year suspension by Churchill Downs Inc. after Medina Spirit tested positive for a legal medication, but not legal on race day, after winning the 2021 Kentucky Derby.
