Rangers acquire Motte from Sens

New York trades Gauthier, 7th-round pick to Ottawa

OTTAWA, Ontario — Right winger Julien Gauthier was traded to the Ottawa Senators by the New York Rangers for left winger Tyler Motte on Sunday.

Ottawa also gets a conditiona­l seventh-round pick in the 2023 draft. Should the Rangers advance past the first round of this ostseason, that pick will improve to the lower of the Rangers’ or Winnipeg Jets’ 2023 sixth-round selection.

Gauthier, 25, has six goals and three assists over 40 games this season.

Motte, 27, has three goals and six assists with a plus-1 rating over 38 games.

Motte returns for his second stint with the Rangers after playing nine regular-season and 15 playoff games with them last year.

Avalanche 6, Oilers 5: Mikko Rantanen scored his 36th of the season with 21 seconds remaining in overtime as Colorado rallied to its third straight. Nathan Mackinnon and J.T. Compher each had a goal and an assist. Edmonton lost its third straight after regulation and its fourth in a row overall. The Oilers, who haven’t won in Denver since Dec. 11, 2018, have blown three-goal leads in consecutiv­e games and have dropped six straight to the Avalanche. Warren Foegele scored twice and Mattias Janmark had a goal and an assist for Edmonton.

Wild 4, Predators 3: Ryan

Hartman knocked in a rebound to put Minnesota ahead with 21 seconds left, just 26 seconds after Nino Niederreit­er tied the game for Nashville. Kirill Kaprizov scored twice for the Wild, who won in regulation for the first time in 13 games since Jan. 17.

Senators 7, Blues 2: Tim Stutzle and Brady Tkachuk had three-point games to lead Ottawa. Stutzle had two goals and an assist. Tkachuk had a goal and two assists. Mads Sogaard made 30 saves.

Blackhawks 5, Maple Leafs 3:

Patrick Kane had his ninth career regular-season hat trick, rookie Cole Guttman scored the game-winner and the Blackhawks beat Toronto. Max Domi had a goal and three assists for the Blackhawks. Guttman scored his first NHL goal by beating Ilya Samsonov over the blocker with a hard wrist shot with 8:18 remaining to break a 3-all tie. Meanwhile, Chicago Captain Jonathan Toews announced that he is dealing with symptoms of long COVID-19 and chronic immune response syndrome. Toews hasn't played since Jan. 28.
