Lomascolo wins 3,000 race at MAAC meet
Shenendehowa grad captures her third title in MAAC meet event
Siena College fifth-year senior Olivia Lomascolo captured the 3,000-meter run at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Indoor Track Championship last weekend at New Balance Armory in New York City.
Lomascolo, from Ballston Lake and a Shenendehowa High graduate, finished the race in 9 minutes, 42.62 seconds. It was her third individual victory in a MAAC championship meet. She won the same race at last year’s indoor meet, and won the league’s cross country championship in the fall.
Lomascolo also ran the anchor leg in the distance medley relay, which finished first in 11:39.36. Senior Elaine Atanasova (Duanesburg High) finished third in the 5,000-meter run in 17:24.40.
Senior Tommy Anderson had a solid meet for the Siena men. The Ballston Spa High graduate finished third in the mile in 4:15.60 and was a member of the 3,200 relay, which finished fourth in 7:45.43, just four seconds out of first place. Freshman Tyler Greene (Scotia-glenville High) was also a member of the relay.
Amanda Chambers (Schenectady)
The graduate student helped the Ualbany women’s indoor track team to a second-place finish at the America East Championship last weekend in Boston. The Colonie High graduate finished fourth in the mile (5:01.36),
fifth in the 1,000meter run (2:58.10) and ran a leg on the 3,200 relay, which finished third (9:28.56). Junior Tyler Howard (Guilderland High) was sixth in the 500-meter dash (1:16.43) and sophomore Tess Fitzmaurice (Greenville High) was eighth in the 3,000meter run (10:05.57). The Danes finished second, a half-point behind Umass Lowell.
Trevor Green (Troy)
The 6-foot-3 sophomore will lead the 16-9 Hudson Valley men’s basketball team into the NJCAA Region 3 Tournament as the No. 4 seed. The Vikings will host Herkimer CC in a quarterfinal game Wednesday in Troy. The Lansingburgh High graduate,
and a Region 3 Player of the Year candidate, leads the Vikings in scoring average (21.4 point per game), rebounding (8.9 per game) and assists (103). Freshman guard Demani Benjamin (Green Tech) is also a key performer. He’s averaging 13.8 points and 4.5 rebounds with 86 assists and 51 steals.
Nick Logan (Queensbury)
The Cobleskill junior finished second out of 36 runners in the mile at the Marc Deneault Invitational last Saturday in Ithaca. The Queensbury High graduate posted a time of 4:20.82. A Cornell runner finished ahead of him and six other Division I runners finished behind him. Freshman sprinter Charles Foote
(Cobleskill-richmondville High) finished third out of 32 entrants in the 400 with a time of 50.81. He bettered two Division I runners and three Division II
runners. Christine Mallette (Gansevoort)
The sophomore sprinter will be a key performer for the RPI women’s indoor track team at the Liberty League Championship this weekend in Rochester. The South Glens Falls High graduate is seeded seventh in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.14. She will also anchor the 1,600 relay, which is ranked third with a time of 4:13.84. Mallette hit her 200 time at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Feb. 11 in Boston competing against many Division I and II athletes.
Emily Satterday (Latham)
The freshman forward, a Shaker High graduate, had eight points and a game-high 13 rebounds, but the Cobleskill women’s basketball team dropped a 51-45 decision to SUNY Poly in the North Atlantic Conference West Division Championship game Sunday in Marcy. It was the first title game for the Fighting Tigers, who finished 16-10 overall and 11-3 in league play. Freshman Talia Washington (Schenectady High) scored 10 points in the defeat.
Ashlyn O’neil (Amsterdam)
The senior, a Scotia-glenville High graduate, leads the RPI women’s basketball team in scoring, but she has missed the past five games because of a trip to Argentina to continue her studies. She was averaging 10.6 points a game. The Engineers, 13-12 overall and 10-8 in league play, host St. Lawrence in a firstround Liberty League Tournament game Tuesday in Troy. Sophomore Marley Mueller (Stillwater High) and junior Ahnalese Pearson (Colonie High) will have to pick up their game. Mueller is averaging 7.2 points a game while Pearson is averaging 4.3 a game.
