Quick traded again; goes to Vegas

Jonathan Quick is on the move again, back to the Pacific Division to solve the Vegas Golden Knights’ latest goaltendin­g quandary.

Vegas acquired Quick from Columbus on Thursday, less than 36 hours after the Los Angeles Kings traded the two-time Stanley Cup-winning goaltender and 2014 playoff MVP to the Blue Jackets.

After losing All-star starter Logan Thompson to an injury, the Golden Knights sent a 2025 seventh-round pick and journeyman netminder Michael Hutchinson to complete the deal with Columbus, which retained half of Quick’s salary.

Another playoff-bound team in the Western Conference upgraded at forward, with Edmonton getting Nick Bjugstad from Arizona. The Coyotes got a 2023 third-round pick and prospect Michael Kesselring for Bjugstad and minor-leaguer Cam Dineen.

Riemsdyk and Anaheim defenseman John Klingberg are the top players left to be traded before the 3 p.m. Friday deadline.

James out for three weeks

Lebron James is expected to miss most of March with an injured tendon in his right foot, the Los Angeles Lakers said. The Lakers did not disclose the full extent of the injury, saying it was a tendon issue and that he will be “reevaluate­d in approximat­ely three weeks.”

Panthers founder dies at 86

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Jerry Richardson, the Carolina Panthers founder and for years one of the NFL’S most influentia­l owners until a scandal forced him to sell the team, has died. He was 86.

Richardson died peacefully Wednesday night at his Charlotte home, the team said in a statement.

Soccer deal for Canada

Canada Soccer and the women’s national team have agreed on an interim funding agreement that is retroactiv­e to last year after players threatened to boycott team activities at last month’s Shebelieve­s Cup tournament. The two sides issued a joint statement which said the terms of the agreement include “per-game incentives and results-based compensati­on” similar to the men’s team.

New hockey league on way

The Profession­al Women’s Hockey Player’s Associatio­n is finalizing plans with corporate sponsors to launch what would be North America’s second women’s pro league by the end of this year, PWHPA lead operations consultant Jayna Hefford said.

Minnesota coach resigns

Lindsay Whalen, considered the greatest player in Minnesota women’s basketball history, resigned as coach on Thursday.
