Duanesburg boys advance

Duanesburg rallied from a one-point halftime deficit to cruise past Hoosic Valley 58-49 on Friday in the Section II Class C boys’ basketball championsh­ip at Cool Insuring Arena in Glens Falls.

Jeffrey Mulhern scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Eagles, who trailed 20-19 at the halftime break but outscored the Indians 39-29 in the second half to win their first sectional crown. Michael Leak, who was named tournament Most Valuable Player, chipped in with 16 points and Ethan Thompson had five points and a game-high 12 rebounds for Duanesburg.

Chris Jones scored 14 points and Logan Reilly added 12 points for Hoosic Valley.

Mulhern, Jones, Reilly along with AJ Wright (Berne-knoxwester­lo) and Steve Schloss (Warrensbur­g) were also named to the Class C All-tournament team.

More boys’ basketball:

Chatham nipped top-seeded Stillwater 58-56 to clinch the Class CC title. Tournament MVP Matt Thorsen scored 20 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead the Panthers. Jacob Baccaro added 14 points for Chatham, which trailed 19-12 at the end of the first quarter but used a 22-10 second quarter to get back in the game and take a 34-29 lead at halftime. Thomas Mcdonough had a game-high 22 points and Jaxon Mueller chipped in with 15 points to lead Stillwater. Baccaro and Mueller joined Lucas Lilac (Stillwater), Carson Carrow (Voorheesvi­lle) and Jacob Ziehm (Greenwich) as others named to the Class CC All-tournament squad. Next up Chatham will face Duanesburg in the Class CC/C championsh­ip at 1 p.m. on Sunday at Cohoes High School.
