Clark’s contributions vital to Troy’s title run
Terrance Clark is a junior guard for the Troy High boys’ basketball team.
Saturday, Clark helped rally the Flying Horses from a 17-point deficit to stun top-seeded Amsterdam 72-68 in the Section II Class A championship game at Cool Insuring Arena. Clark finished with 22 points, eight rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocked shots to earn an all-tournament nod.
Troy (13-10) next competes in state regional play Wednesday night at Liverpool High School against Section III champion New Hartford (14-10).
Q: You have had a little time to digest what happened. How does it feel a day after that win?
A: It feels like it doesn’t feel real.
Q: Amsterdam led 38-21 with a few minutes to go in the first half. How important was to get a little closer to end the half ?
A: We have played a tough schedule, so we have been used to going down a lot and coming back. I was telling everyone in the huddle to keep their heads because it is not over with yet.
Q: Daniel Covington, the team’s leading scorer in the 2021-22 season, was released from the team early in the season. When that happened, and the team was thrust into a new reality, what were your thoughts? A: It kind of broke my heart, but then I thought just to do it for him. If he was here, he would want us to win it.
Q: Everyone had to take on a bit of a different role. From your prospective, how did your role change? A: I feel like I have become more of a leader and I had to set the example for some of the guys.
Q: There were people questioning whether the team should have been seeded No. 3 and thoughts out there that your team really did not have chance of contending for a sectional title. Did you guys sort of take that talk internally and use it as motivation?
A: Yeah, during our whole run, we used that as motivation. A lot of people didn’t believe in us, even people in our own school.
Q: What does it say about this team that you were able to beat Gloversville, Hudson Falls and Amsterdam to win this title?
A: I feel like we have improved a lot and I want to give my coach (John Killian) a shoutout. He came out with some great game plans to go into these playoff games and that helped us be able to beat these good teams.
