Town farmers market moves outdoors
HALFMOON — The town’s farmers market will be in its summer location at Abele Memorial Park on Harris Road, next to the town of Halfmoon Municipal Center.
Open from 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesdays through September, it will offer fresh, local and organic produce, as well as specialty items from local crafters and vendors.
This year marks the sixth anniversary of the Halfmoon Farmers Market, which operates yearround: indoors from October to May at the Halfmoon Town Hall, and outdoors from June to September.
New farmers and vendors offering food, baked goods, crafts and jewelry are welcome.

School supply drive set in Troy
TROY — Drop off new school supply items through Aug. 1 to help city students in grades K through 12.
The school supply drive is being hosted by the Troy Public Library and its community partners.
Drop-off locations are: Hannaford Supermarkets, 9 126th St.; Polish American Club, 507 1st St.; Troy Fire Department Station 1, 115th St. and 5th Ave.; Troy Fire Department Station 5, 6th Avenue and Jacob Street; Troy Fire Department Station 6, Canal and 3rd streets; and Afrikan Queens Boutique, 96 5th Ave.
All items collected will be distributed at an event at the end of the summer.

Glens Falls Pride Festival is June 4
GLENS FALLS — The Glens Falls Pride Festival will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 4 in Glens Falls City Park on Maple Street.
It will include a drag show, vendors and music and will start with a march
around the block following opening ceremonies.
Hosted by the Lower Adirondack Pride, the new name of the relaunched organization formerly known as The Bridge, the event is free and open to the public.

Herman Melville House opens for season
TROY — The Lansingburgh Historical Society will open the Herman Melville House, 2 114th St., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 10.
There will be a guided walking tour of four lovely gardens within a short distance. To participate, arrive at the Melville House by 10:15 a.m.
A donation of $6 for not yet members and $5 for members will be appreciated.

“Fridays in the Garden” set at Brookside
BALLSTON SPA — The Saratoga County History Center’s free popular series, “Fridays in the Garden,” will return this summer in the gardens of Brookside Museum, 21 Fairground Ave.
The gardening programs will be led by Kathleen Royka, with guest speakers Jere Blackwelder and Mina Dunnum.

Van Buren BARK Ranger program to launch
KINDERHOOK — The Martin Van Buren National Historic Site will hold its inaugural BARK Ranger Weekend from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, June 10 and 11 at the site, 1013 Old Post Road.
Following the B.A.R.K. rules means to:

▪ A, Always leash you dog ▪ R, Respect wildlife and stay on the trails and
▪ K, Know where you can go. Pets are not allowed inside buildings.
There will be BARK Ranger dog tags, treats, dog photo contest and a walking tour celebrating five iconic dogs of the National Park Service. To certify your furry family member as a BARK Ranger, visit the park and take the BARK Ranger pledge.

Geoengineering, water cycle to be explored
SHUSHAN — A workshop on geoengineering and the water cycle will be offered from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 10 at Dionondehowa Wildlife Sanctuary and School, 148 Stanton Road, a forever-wild land trust located on 217 acres.
Bonnie Hoag will lead this workshop and a discussion on how to mitigate climate change through Solar Radiation Management and the potential impacts on the water cycle. She is the director of the sanctuary and school and has been researching geoengineering since 2008.

Program looks at “The Pretty Fantastic Mr. Fox”
AVERILL PARK — Peter Finn will lead The Sand Lake Historical Society’s program on industrialist and state Sen. Albert Rodmond Fox at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 13 at Sand Lake Town Hall Courtroom, 8428 NY 66.
Fox was a business and church leader and one of the leading citizens of 19th-century Sand Lake. Along with his brother Samuel, he successfully operated the Rensselaer Glassworks until it was destroyed by fire in 1852. His Fox Mansion on Routes 43 and 66 in Sand Lake is on the National and State Registers of Historic Places.
Finn is the author of “Rensselaer County Industrialist Albert Fox: A Short Bio.”

Yoga for gardeners classes on tap
TANNERSVILLE — Outdoor yoga sessions will be offered from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m. Wednesdays June 14 through Sept. 13 at Mountain Top Arboretum, 4 Maude Adams Road.
Pamela Martin and other local yoga teachers will share tips to avoid injury and to help support the body during gardening and yard work.

Poetry Motel Foundation hosts readings
ALBANY — Darcy Smith will read from her work at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 15 at the Social Justice Center, 33 Central Ave.
Smith is a Hudson Valley native whose debut collection of poems, “River Skin,” was released last year.
This is the monthly Third Thursday event, which includes an open mic for audience members to read. The host of the readings is poet and photographer Dan Wilcox.
The suggested donation is $5, which helps support this and other poetry programs of the Poetry Motel Foundation and the work of the Social Justice Center.

Petpalooza pet adoption and fair set
BALLSTON SPA — Curtis Lumber will host its 13th annual Petapalooza pet adoption day and pet fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 17 at its store, 885 State Route 67, and also at its stores at 1657 Columbia Turnpike, Castleton and 460 Big Bay Road, Queensbury.
Several pet adoptions and rescue groups will offer cats, dogs, rabbits, birds and horses for adoption. Local veterinarians, groomers, pet sitters and trainers will offer discounts off their services.
Last year’s event resulted in more than 300 animals finding new forever homes.

Colonie Senior Service plans car show
ALBANY — Colonie Senior Service Centers will hold its fifth annual car show from 2 to 6 p.m. Monday, June 26 on the grounds of The Beltrone Living Center, 6 Winners Circle, as part of its Summerfest, a senior community block party.
There will be live music, ongoing games, an active aging fair and food and beverage. The car show will be an exhibition of current automobile models, debuts, concept cars and out-of-production classics. Attendees will be asked to vote for “Best of Show.”
The fee to register a vehicle in advance is $10; day-of-show registration will be $20.
Bring lawn chairs and dancing shoes.
