Source: Mom of slain infant lied about daughter’s death
The mother of the 3month-old girl found slain in Bronx trash-strewn woods lied to authorities about her daughter’s death, insisting the infant was still alive and staying with relatives, a law enforcement source told The Daily News Wednesday.
Ivana Paolozzi, 20, allegedly misled city Administration for Children’s Services investigators when they questioned her about her daughter’s whereabouts, the source said Wednesday.
She was soon arrested this past Monday for allegedly helping boyfriend
Damion Comager dispose of their daughter’s body, with the source indicating the couple placed the tiny corpse of Genevieve Comager inside a bag before dumping her in trashstrewn woods behind a Bronx motel now used as a shelter.
The baby’s death and subsequent disposal occurred between May 10 and May 16, with the victim only found this past Sunday after police confronted the parents, the source said. One of the parents broke down and led cops to the woodsy patch only three blocks from Yankee Stadium.
Paolozzi is charged with concealment of a human corpse while her boyfriend was hit with the same charge plus murder. Both were arrested Monday and are expected to be arraigned in Bronx Criminal Court Wednesday.
The mother was making plans to visit with her estranged parents in Switzerland before her arrest, with her devastated mother and father kept in the dark by their daughter about the killing of their grandchild.
Paolozzi’s parents, in an exclusive interview with the Daily News, described Comager as a violent man who beat their daughter bloody during a stay with the family last year.
Dad Rene Paolozzi told the News that Comager attacked him as well during their visit, knocking him unconscious.
The victim’s tiny body was located Sunday evening after her paternal grandfather, Donald Comager, called police to conduct a wellness check.
The medical examiner has yet to determine an exact cause of death in the horrifying killing, which has been deemed a homicide.
“I loved my daughter and I’m sorry,” the accused killer said Monday as he was led in handcuffs from the 44th Precinct stationhouse to appear in court.
Donald Comager, 47, said Damion became evasive after his call from Louisiana this past Sunday, adding he never heard the sounds of his granddaughter in the background as they spoke. Damion eventually admitted to him that he shook the baby, then woke up later to find her not breathing, the dad told CBS News.
Damion’s mom Ashly Sanford told the Daily News Tuesday her son long suffered from severe mental disorders that surfaced in violent outbursts including killing animals as a child.
