Mccord wins Ohio State QB job

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Kyle Mccord will be the starting quarterbac­k when No. 3 Ohio State opens the season Saturday at Indiana.

A right-handed, pro-style passer, the 20-year-old Mccord backed up two-time Heisman Trophy finalist C.J. Stroud for two seasons. Mccord beat out sophomore Devin Brown.

No. 14 Utah faces QB question

SALT LAKE CITY — Cam Rising’s status remains a mystery heading into No. 14 Utah’s first game, listed as a game-day decision. Rising has been rehabilita­ting a torn ACL suffered in January in the Rose Bowl and was limited in August practices.

Hazing costs San Diego team

SAN DIEGO — Approximat­ely half of the University of San Diego football team will face “varying degrees of disciplina­ry action” over a preseason hazing incident.

Arrests made in sabotage plot

LLEIDA, Spain — Four people were arrested in a plot to sabotage a stage of the Spanish Vuelta by dumping a liquid, possibly motor oil, from an overpass onto the road as the peloton rode past in Monday’s third stage. Police said a discovery on the overpass led to the arrests.

Lukaku to sign Roma deal

Romelu Lukaku arrived in the Italian capital with the aim of joining Roma on a season-long loan deal that would see the Belgium striker look to revive his career in a third spell under coach Jose Mourinho.

The cost of the loan for the 30year-old Lukaku is reportedly $10 million, taking the cumulative transfer fees spent on him to nearly $375 million — second only to Neymar in soccer history.
