Michael Kosta of ‘The Daily Show’ coming to June Farms
There’s something funny at June Farms and it’s not the scent wafting from the pig barn.
Comedian Michael Kosta is performing at the Rensselaer County venue this week. Kosta, a senior correspondent on “The Daily Show,” is also a former professional tennis player (ranked 864th in the world, he proudly shares). Prior to hitting the streets — and the sound stage — for “The Daily Show,” Kosta hosted, and was the co-executive producer of, “The Comment Section” for the E! Network.
He prefers a basement bar to an old theater, when performing live, because, he said, he likes the mood it sets when people walk down for comedy.
At June Farms Kosta will perform in the Pony Barn — a venue first for Kosta.
In addition to his sharp forehand backswing — and his aptly named podcast, “Tennis Anyone” — Kosta is known for his late-night appearances on “The Tonight Show,” “Conan,” “Seth Meyers” and “@midnight.”
Like most comedians, the Michigan native does not shy away from hotbutton — even sensitive — topics, including school shootings, police brutality and abortion rights. Naturally, some of his current events bits lead commenters to declare “too soon,” but nearly 65,000 users follow (and laud) him on Instagram and he’s the biggest name in comedy to perform with Erin Harkes at June Farms.
“When Matt (Baumgartner, June Farms owner) asked me to bring him a big name I immediately thought of people that I had had the pleasure of working with in the past,” said Harkes, owner of Erin Harkes Events, the host for the event. “Michael Kosta was one of the first people who popped into my head because, not only was he very talented, he was also very nice. Ever since I met him, I really wanted to work with him again so this was an incredible opportunity.”

Parker Road, West Sand Lake. The show starts at 7 p.m., doors open at 5 p.m.
