Corks & Cuisine fete is back as Saratoga fundraiser
The annual Corks & Cuisine fundraiser, sponsored by Saratoga Springs-based DZ Restaurants, will be held 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, at DZ’S Forno Bistro, 541 Broadway, Saratoga.
The event will feature a selection of wines, spirits, craft beers and food samples from the menus of Forno and DZ’S other restaurants, Chianti Ristorante and Boca Bistro. There will also be be a silent auction of items and experiences.
All proceeds from the event will benefit the Richard Bambara Memorial Fund, which supports uro-oncology resident education and research at Albany Medical Center. The fund was set up in memory of the late husband of DZ Restaurants’ vice president and COO, Nancy Bambara; Richard Bambara died in May 2018, three months after being diagnosed with a rare, aggressive urological cancer.
Admission is a suggested donation of $40, available at the door or by online registration at shop.dzrestaurants.com.
Chamber group slates two music and dining events
The local Musicians of Ma’alwyck ensemble has two upcoming performances with food components.
On Nov. 5, the Musicians of Ma’alwyck will present a concert at the Schuyler Mansion in Albany titled “Assassins and Villains,” featuring music drawn from the Rossini’s “Otello” and “Semiramide” as well as Mozart’s “Don Giovanni.” A preview performance will be held at noon on Wednesday, Nov. 1 at SUNY Schenectady. The Sunday, Nov. 5 performances are at 2 and 4 p.m. Immediately following the 4 p.m. concert, ticketholders may join the performers at Cafe Capriccio in Albany for a meal by owner Jim Rua.
The meal is priced at $70.40 per person, including tax and
tip but plus beverages. A concert ticket is required to buy admission to the dinner.
The second part of Musicians of Ma’alwyck’s Wine &
Music Triptych is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10, at the Woman’s Club of Albany, 725 Madison Ave. It will pair wine, music and appetizers from
Germany and Austria, including German food from Rolf ’s Pork Store in Albany. A wine discussion will be led by Josh Turo, sommelier and managing partner of Yono’s and dp: An American Brasserie in Albany. Tickets are $125.

Son of Egg closes Albany spot, Rensselaer is open
The original location of the Korean restaurant Son of Egg has been closed until further notice since late September. Problems with the building, at 418 Madison Ave. in Albany, forced the temporary closure, owner Justin Ko said. The larger second location that has become the Son of Egg flagship and includes a liquor license, at 483 Broadway in Rensselaer, remains open.
