ALBANY — Dr. Michael J. Chojnacki, known affectionately as Mike, passed away peacefully at home in Albany, N.Y., surrounded by his family on January 20, 2024. He was 79 years old. Son of the late Sigmund and Wanda (Romaszewski) Chojnacki, Mike had an incredible thirst for knowledge and life, finding joy in learning, reading, music, the arts, and traveling. His greatest love, however, was his family, as he was a true family man with a huge heart.

Mike began his higher education at Fordham University, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa and completed his medical degree at the University of Chicago, where he met the future mother of his children, Diane Calhoun. He would further his education throughout his life at Ualbany, where he also had a short tenure teaching. Michael had several successful private medical practices throughout his life, as well as being employed at the VA hospital in Albany for many years.

Michael is predeceased by his wife, Janice Cornett Chojnacki; and is survived by his children, David, Paul, and Elizabeth; his grandchildren, Ethan, Naomi, Joshua, and Liam; great-granddaughters, Ailah and Naia; and his brother, Thomas (Carol) Chojnacki. He is further survived by his nieces, Laruen, and Sarah Chojnacki; as well as several cousins.

A Memorial Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, January 26, at 10:30 a.m., at Blessed Sacrament Church, located at 605 Central Avenue, in Albany, N.Y. The Church was a place of worship for Mike, where he found solace and community and sang in the choir for many years.

In remembrance of Mikes vibrant life, and his dedication to his loved ones, friends and family are invited to attend the Memorial Funeral Mass, at Blessed Sacrament Church.
