Hornak, Stanley

-

HYDE PARK — Stanley Peter Hornak, 78, passed away on February 22, 2024, at peace knowing he would wake up in the comfort of the Lord, free from tiredness and distress.

Born on August 9, 1945, to Michael and Mary Hornak in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., Stanley attended St. Peter’s Grade School, Our Lady of Lourdes High School and, in 1967, graduated from Marist College. He went on to achieve a successful career in public relations. For 32 years, Stanley worked at CSEA, in Fishkill and then in Albany, holding various positions, and eventually became Deputy Director of Communications. Stanley found passion in his work and loved the people he worked with - some of whom stayed in close contact even after his retirement, especially his dear friends, Lenore Barnard and Janice Kucskar.

With a passion for history instilled by his parents at a young age, Stanley and his brother, Michael, would often take family trips to various historical sites up and down the east coast. As an adult, Stanley would travel the world with his brother; favorite destinations included France and Italy. In fact, Stanley was in the presence of three Popes during his lifetime! From exquisite food to the most unique sightseeing excursions, he and Michael made the most of every trip they planned.

A gentle and generous soul, Stanley was a devout parishioner of St. Peter’s Parish in Hyde Park, N.Y., starting as an altar server during his grade school years. The family would like to thank Father Daniel D’alliessi, Pastor, for visiting and praying with Stanley during his last few weeks. Also, a special thank you to Father Zeverin Emagalit, for his friendship and prayers over the years.

Stanley is survived by his brother and best friend, Michael Hornak; his godson, Nicholas Shannon, and his partner Joe Delvescovi; along with first cousins, Julia Frank, Carol Jennings, Paul Kacocha, Gail (Ed) Skelly, Patricia (Frank) Doroski, Robert (Cindy) Young; many relatives and friends, including the Egan family (Nancy, Robin and John), Rita Osika; and first cousins removed, who provided great assistance in Stanley’s final days.

A special thank you to the Hudson Valley Hospice House, for the wonderful care they provided Stanley in his final days; and to Margo Lavariega, handyman, caretaker, and friend.

A Catholic Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel, 185 Hudson View Drive, Poughkeepsie, at 9:30 a.m. Burial in the family plot will follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Stanley’s memory to St. Peter’s Parish, 6 Father Cody Plaza, Poughkeepsie, N.Y. 12601.

Arrangements will be under the direction of Sweet’s Funeral Home.
