Roads closed, parking restricted for NCAA tournament

Sweet 16 action begins at 2:30 p.m. Friday with No. 3 Oregon State going up against Notre Dame, followed by No. 4 Indiana facing off against undefeated No. 1 seed South Carolina at 5 p.m.

ALBANY — Downtown Albany will look very different for the next few days as the NCAA women’s basketball tournament comes to town. The event is one of the most highly anticipate­d events in the history of the MVP Arena. Road closures and parking restrictio­ns will be significan­t.

Some restrictio­ns started Thursday morning, and the last one will expire at 6 a.m. Tuesday. The Albany Police Department has said additional road closures may become necessary over the weekend to control the flow of people and traffic.

Police said downtown parking lots will be open, though no remote parking with shuttle service will be provided. The state Office of General Services said that the East Parking Garage off Madison Avenue will not be open, but that the V lot under the Empire State Plaza will be open as usual. OGS is also opening lots at Green and Liberty streets, Madison Avenue and South Pearl Street, and Madison Avenue and

Green Street for a $25 daily fee.

Here is a list of road impacts:

Road closures

• North Pearl Street between Beaver Street and Hudson Avenue will be closed beginning at 6 p.m. Friday and will remain closed through 6 a.m. Tuesday.

Drivers should anticipate that the following roadways will be closed from time to time as needed between the hours of 6 a.m. and midnight:

• Hudson Avenue between Green and South Pearl streets.

• South Pearl Street between Market Street and Hudson Avenue.

• South Pearl Street between State and Beaver streets.

Parking restrictio­ns

Parking will be prohibited on the following roads beginning at 6 a.m. Thursday through 6 a.m. Tuesday.

• The east side of Eagle Street from Howard to State streets.

• The east side of Lodge Street from State to Pine streets.

• The west side of Lodge Street from Corning

Place to State Street.

• The south side of Pine Street from Lodge Street to opposite Chapel Street.

• The south side of Sheridan Avenue west of Eagle Street.

Parking will be prohibited on both sides of South Pearl Street from State to Market streets from 6 a.m. Friday through 6 a.m. Tuesday.

Parking will be prohibited on the following roads beginning at 6 a.m. Friday through 11:59 p.m. Monday:

• Both sides of Market Street from South Pearl Street to the rear of the MVP Arena.

• Both sides of Grand Street from Hamilton to Market streets.

• Both sides of Hudson Avenue from Broadway to South Pearl Street.

• Both sides of Beaver Street from South Pearl to Green streets.

• Both sides of Green Street from Hudson Avenue to Madison Avenue (reserved for Uber/lyft vehicles).

• Center median of State Street between Eagle Street and Broadway.

No. 3 LSU will play No. 2 UCLA on Saturday at 1 p.m. before No. 5 Colorado takes on Caitlin Clark and No. 1 Iowa at 3:30 p.m.

Winners of those games will advance to the Elite Eight, scheduled for Sunday and Monday.
