Blessing of the backpacks will be held by Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 6901 Wyoming NE, during an outdoor service at 9:30 a.m. Sunday. Wear comfortable clothing and bring backpacks, brief cases and electronic devices to participate in this special blessing for students and teachers. A free brunch will follow. “Choir Day 2012,” hosted by the Grant Chapel’s chancel choir, features choirs from several churches. It will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Grant Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church, 7920 Claremont NE. All are welcome.
Wings for L.I.F.E., a ministry connecting families of inmates with local church members, will meet from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at Second Presbyterian Church, 812 Edith NE. (Park in the lot on the north side of the church, off Page Road, and enter the social hall through the east door). Erma Sedilla will speak about what she learned during her 26 years in the New Mexico Corrections Department. The meeting includes free dinner and children’s activities. The Making Connections to Judaism program offered by Congregation B’nai Israel, 4401 Indian School NE, will be held Tuesday beginning at 6:30 p.m. with a light dinner. Phil Bock will speak about his cousin Jerry Bock who won a Tony for writing the score of “Fiddler on the Roof” and is also known for “Fiorello” and “She Loves Me.” Cost in advance is $8 for members, $11 for nonmembers. An ordination service for John M. Linebarger will be held at Christ the King Anglican Church, 5300 Second NW. at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
