Hawk Girls Soccer Loses to Sandia in OT
Cibola Volleyball 3rd at Metro Meet
The Volcano Vista girls soccer team is undefeated no more.
The Hawks were beaten in overtime Wednesday night by Sandia 2-1 at the APS Complex.
It was Volcano’s first loss after seven wins to start the season.
Hannah Fenske had the Hawks’ goal, in the 72nd minute to tie the game 1-1.
Other highlights from the past week of action involving West Side Journal schools:
■ Andres Rivera of Bosque School had hat tricks on consecutive days for the Bobcats — first in a 4-0 win over Highland, and a few hours later in an 8-2, district-opening victory over Rehoboth.
His teammate, Felipe Galvis, also had a hat trick last week. In fact, he had three goals and three assists in a 9-1 rout of East Mountain. Galvis also added two goals and three assists in the Rehoboth game.
■ Cibola’s Courtney Doman had the winning goal in the 98th as the Cougars avoided penalty kicks with a 2-1 win over Piedra Vista.
■ Claire Lynch of Volcano Vista, who leads 5A in scoring, had two goals in two separate wins for the Hawks (Piedra Vista and Carlsbad).
■ Sarah Moulton of Bosque School had a hat trick, and Sydney Schneider added two goals in a 10-0 win against East Mountain.
■ In a matchup of 4A playoff teams, Amanda Hernandez and Madeline Waszak had first-half goals for St. Pius, which edged Miyamura 2-1.
■ Alex Dalton and Teriq Canales both had two goals for the Volcano Vista boys who downed Piedra Vista 7-1.
Volleyball
Cibola finished third at the Albuquerque Metro Championships at Volcano Vista, defeating Sandia 3-1 in the third-place match.
The host Hawks were sixth. They fell to La Cueva in the fifth-place match.
Bosque School didn’t compete at the metro event, but did win the tournament title at Hope’s tournament, outlasting the host Huskies 3-2. Bosque (9-0) took the fifth game 15-11.
Cross-Country
Volcano Vista’s Zac Castillo won last weekend’s Atrisco Heritage Academy Invitational.
