Alford Paces Bears With 42

Rams Hold On To Beat Española

Senior guard Bryce Alford continued his torrid earlyseaso­n scoring pace for La Cueva on Tuesday night.

Alford’s 42 points helped the Bears (1-1) hold off Volcano Vista 64-62.

Alford dropped 46 on Cibola in last week’s season opener.

He scored 27 in the first half Tuesday night against the Hawks (1-1).

VALLEY 46, CIBOLA 33: At Cibola, junior guard Joe Anaya had all 22 of his points in the first three quarters as the Vikings (2-0) took advantage of cold-shooting Cibola (1-1) in the middle two quarters.

HOPE CHRISTIAN 63, WEST MESA 43: At Hope, seniors Tommy Riley and Micah Murphy led the way as the Huskies (2-0) pulled away from the Mustangs (0-2) in the second half.

RIO RANCHO 72, ESPAÑOLA 71: At Española, Enrique DeLeon’s 5-footer with eight seconds remaining was the difference for the Rams (1-2). Nathan Cordova missed a last-second shot for Española Valley (3-2).

RIO GRANDE 65, SANTA FE 51: At Santa Fe, the Ravens were without some starters, but beat the Demons behind 19 points from Juwan Brooks and 17 from Mike Torrez as Rio Grande (1-1) never trailed.

BERNALILLO 79, LOS LUNAS 76: At Bernalillo, senior guard Brandon Saiz poured in 42 points as the Spartans held off the Tigers, who at one point in the second half trailed by 20. Ben Romero had 32 points for Los Lunas.

ATRISCO HERITAGE 63, BELEN 43: At Belen, the Jaguars (2-0) limited the Eagles (1-1) to just 11 field goals.

ST. PIUS 60, GALLUP 56: At St. Pius, Micah Sanchez had 20 points as the Sartans won a high-profile 4A matchup against last season’s 4A state runner-up, the Bengals.

SANDIA 79, ABQ. ACADEMY 41: Adam Cumber’s 23 points led the Matadors.

CLEVELAND 50, OÑATE 40: In Rio Rancho, the Storm rode a big first half to a victory over the Knights.

CAPITAL 53, MANZANO 46: The Monarchs and new coach David Gibson dropped to 0-2, both losses coming against 4A programs.

RIO RANCHO 36, HIGHLAND 31: At Rio Rancho, senior guard Ally Salata had 14 points, and the Rams held the Hornets scoreless over the final eight minutes.

CLEVELAND 50, OÑATE 41: In Rio Rancho, Courtney Lawson had 14 points as the Storm (2-1) rallied in the fourth-quarter for the victory for the second time this season.

LOS LUNAS 51, DEL NORTE 21: At Los Lunas, junior post Teige Zeller had 19 points and the Tigers held the Knights to just nine points over the first three quarters.

ABQ. HIGH 47, CAPITAL 35: At Bulldog City, Danae Ruiz had a team-best 17 points, and AHS (1-1) had more than half its points (24) in the second quarter.
