MARTENS, RICHARD

Quietly passed away on November 27, 2012 after a short battle with cancer. He was born in New York City on October 30, 1938. He was the son of Mildred and John Martens. His parents and brother, John, have preceded him in death. Richard is survived by his wife of 38 years, Bobby; his daughter, Laura Martens of Sand Lake, NY; his son, Robert Martens of Steamboat Springs, CO; and his step-children, Melinda Hadley of Williamspo­rt, PA, Christophe­r Hadley of Noblesvill­e, IN and Jon Hadley of Orlando, FL. He also has six grandchild­ren. At the time his death, Richard worked with his wife as an Albuquerqu­e Realtor. Prior to that, his profession was in the field of clinical and analytical instrument­ation. He started in that industry as a field service engineer and rose to the position of national service manager. Richard served in the U.S. Army and later in the National Guard. He attended Oswego Teacher’s College and Dewitt Clinton High School in the Bronx. He loved to ride his motorcycle­s and was an avid skier. Richard was a member of Christ Community Fellowship and he volunteere­d as an instructor with the Adaptive Ski Program. A memorial service will be held for Richard at 10:00am on Saturday, December 8th at Christ Community Fellowship, 5908 Anaheim Avenue, NE, Albuquerqu­e, NM 87113. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be sent to: Adaptive Ski Program, C/O Katya Franzgen, 1595 Camino la Canada, Santa Fe, NM 87501.
