I ATTENDED

-

a basketball clinic in Colorado Springs where Rick Majerus was the main speaker. After his talk he took questions from the audience. I asked him “Where is the toughest place he ever coached at?” He asked me if I have ever heard of the PIT in Albuquerque. … He told the audience that the New Mexico fans were the most rowdy and knowledgeable fans in the country, and that it was the loudest place that he ever coached a game at. He said it got so loud that the rims were shaking. Rest in peace coach the Lobo Nation loved you. — The Hispanic Mechanic

WHAT THE ABQ Journal should be saying is this: out of more than 15 schools in Albuquerque, one of them will probably make the Football State Championship every year, in at least one class. I’m sure the Journal is also riding the coat tails of Los Lunas right now. (Not sure if they’re an official “metro” school.) If you are looking for “GREAT” football programs, you should be looking for a consistent, deep playoff team that re-loads every year, and doesn’t have to wait for a particular athletic class to come through, in order to make a run at a championship.

EL HOMBRE, you’re right about too many college bowl games, but do I detect a note of jealousy that despite there being 37 bowl games, your beloved Lobos STILL couldn’t play well enough to get invited to play in one? The usual reaction when you’re not invited to the party is to downgrade the party as “no big deal.”

GOOD TO SEE that Kenny Thomas did so well in English while at UNM. In his statement, he said, “Due to in-climate weather ....” There is no such thing. He should have used the word “inclement”. Sure would have been nice if (the Journal) had caught it. That’s what “(sic)” is used for. …
